Shamini Shanmugam

Shamini Shanmugam, born to Indian parents, was raised in Singapore in her early years. During her childhood, her father, who extensively traveled the world, would constantly buy her unique pieces of children’s clothing and jewelry from all over the globe. She was extremely influenced by her mother’s exquisite and glamorous sense of style. Her wardrobe became a dream to every little girl. It was then that her affirmed passion was born.

At the age of three her family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she grew up. While in her adolescence, she would constantly doodle and sketch clothes she owned or desired. Her parents wished for her to pursue a career in medicine, therefore her aspirations for a career in fashion seemed bleak. After high school, she attended Arizona State University (ASU) as a business major, realizing midway through that this was not her true passion.  Her mother then encouraged her to follow her heart and pursue her dream, so she made the move to Los Angeles to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM).

While in school, she excelled in every area, focusing on eveningwear and dressy sportswear. Her professors always seemed to make it a point to take notice of her refreshingly talented style, which gave her the confidence she needed to succeed. Her ability to design really began to flourish.

After graduating and returning to Arizona, Shamini was inspired to launch her own label. She began working for Phoenix Fashion Week as a Designer/Buyer representative, which helped her learn the business. The following year she showcased her debut collection at Phoenix Fashion Week as an emerging designer.

She has always been taught that the possibilities are endless, and that is how she succeeds.
